At CES 2024, the world’s largest consumer electronics exhibition held in Las Vegas from January 9, Korean startup Terracle presented its innovative technology and products at Samsung Electronics’ Sustainability Pavilion.
What stood out was that Terracle was featured not in Samsung’s C-Lab exhibition area, but in the company’s dedicated Sustainability Zone.
Samsung Electronics installed the Sustainability Pavilion at the entrance of its exhibition hall to highlight its new environmental management strategy and commitment to sustainability. The space introduced the company’s efforts in resource circulation and environmental initiatives, as well as collaborations with startups working to address major environmental challenges.
Terracle, a startup nurtured by Samsung Electronics’ C-Lab program in 2023, has developed an innovative technology that converts waste plastics back into raw materials. At CES, the company showcased ultra-high-purity CR-TPA (chemically recycled terephthalic acid) produced through its low-temperature depolymerization technology.
Through its participation in the event, Terracle demonstrated that it is not merely a recycling company but a potential global eco-friendly solution provider for major industries. The company’s technology also suggests the possibility of expanding waste recycling solutions to electronics and mobile device sectors, raising expectations for further technological innovation.
Samsung Electronics continues to foster startups in the environmental sector through its C-Lab Outside startup incubation program, encouraging the development of the sustainability startup ecosystem. In August 2023, Samsung also partnered with Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), a global social innovation startup competition, to identify startups with innovative technologies in climate action and circular economy solutions.
Technologies from the winning startups were showcased to a global audience through the exhibition space at CES.
