Terracle (CEO: Kwon Kibaek) announced that it will participate in Startup Mahakumbh 2025, an international startup exhibition to be held in New Delhi, India, from April 3 to April 5. Founded in 2021, Terracle is a Korean startup developing chemical recycling technology (depolymerization) that converts waste plastics and discarded textiles into high-purity raw materials. The company focuses on recycling materials that are difficult to process through conventional mechanical methods—such as composite plastic waste, polyester fibers, and plastic films—which are typically incinerated or landfilled. Through its technology, these materials are converted into chemically recycled terephthalic acid (cr-TPA) and ethylene glycol (cr-EG).
These chemical feedstocks are widely used in industries that produce PET and various polyester-based materials, giving Terracle’s circular resource solution strong industrial value.
At the exhibition, Terracle plans to introduce its low-temperature, atmospheric-pressure depolymerization technology based on hydrolysis, as well as demonstrate the types of waste materials its process can handle and the industrial applications of cr-TPA and cr-EG.
The company has already demonstrated the scalability of its technology by operating a fully automated continuous depolymerization plant capable of processing more than one ton of waste per day for 18 months. Building on two pilot plants, Terracle is currently expanding its facilities to reach an annual processing capacity of 4,000 tons. The company is also known for having one of the largest cr-TPA production capacities among existing recycling plants, while meeting strict quality standards required by global industries.
Terracle’s depolymerization process operates under low temperature and atmospheric pressure, enabling significantly lower carbon emissions per production unit compared to conventional methods. The process is also highly energy-efficient, reducing environmental impact while maintaining competitive pricing for recycled materials.
Through participation in Startup Mahakumbh, Terracle aims to explore global partnerships and market expansion opportunities.
A company representative stated, “Terracle seeks to collaborate with partners in India and other regions to address specific waste management challenges. We are open to joint technology development, technology licensing, and localized partnerships. At the same time, we expect to create new business opportunities with companies investing in ESG solutions and circular waste management models.”
The company also emphasized that its top priority is establishing a recycling plant in India, targeting the country’s significant plastic waste problem and high demand for TPA.
“By introducing Terracle’s chemical recycling technology to the Indian market, we plan to explore collaborations with local customers, recycling companies, and chemical industry partners,” the representative added.
Startup Mahakumbh 2025 is organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and marks the second edition of the startup exhibition. Last year’s event attracted 48,000 visitors and more than 1,300 exhibiting companies, including the attendance of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent figures.
Under the theme “BIGGER, BETTER, BOLDER,” this year’s exhibition is expected to host over 3,000 companies and more than 50,000 visitors, covering 12 sectors including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, biotechnology, healthtech, agriculture, and climate tech.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (KISED) have supported the participation of 11 promising Korean startups in Startup Mahakumbh 2025. Selected companies underwent preparatory training and will showcase their technologies and business models through the K-Startup Pavilion, aiming to connect with local partners and investors.
Through this participation, Korean startups will seek practical opportunities for entry into the Indian market, while KISED aims to help establish a foundation for the success of Korean startups in India.
